First aidCleaningFireHygiene

Disinfectant, solvent for tinctures, and fuel. Denatured alcohol is a different product with bitterants and toxins — it is for stoves and shellac, not bodies.

Shelf life
Indefinite sealed
Container
Glass, cool, away from spark and oxidizers
Grade
95% (190 proof) or 70% for skin. Never denatured if it will touch a mouth or a wound.

What it does

  • ▸Skin and tool wipe at ~70% (dilute 95% with distilled water)
  • ▸Herbal tinctures (food-grade only)
  • ▸Alcohol stove fuel in a designed burner

Store

  • ▸Flammable cabinet logic: cool, no spark, away from pool shock and permanganate.
  • ▸Child-locked. This is drinkable at high proof and also a fire load.

Hazards

  • ▸Highly flammable.
  • ▸Denatured (methylated) spirits can blind or kill if drunk.
  • ▸70% is a better germ killer on skin than 99% because water helps denature proteins.

Never mix

Gear

No open flame

In the field

To make ~70% from 95%: 70 mL of 95% plus 25 mL of boiled-then-cooled water, mix, label. Do the math once on paper.

Source

Liquor store for food-grade. Hardware ‘denatured’ is not medical and not for tinctures.
